IPhone 6 Plus Starts to Sell Out in Some U.S. Stores

We had already speculated a few problems with the iPhone 6 Plus and we were not entirely wrong since the larger iPhone has already started to sell out at some stores across the U.S. There is this one Apple store on the Upper West Side in Manhattan where the stock had finished late yesterday morning even though the line of anxious customers outside was still snaking through the block. Some carriers in the same block also had a few iPhone 6 Plus which they had been selling but they also ran out of the limited supply.

On the other hand in downtown Portland,Oregon, customers in line before the store opened said the bigger model was sold out already. The phone hadn’t even gone out for sale and people started speculating that the supply wasn’t enough to meet the soaring demand. The iPhone 6 Plus saw record breaking pre orders within the first 24 hours last week. This larger iPhone started having shipping delays of three to four weeks, and the iPhone 6 on the other hand faced delays of seven to 10 days.

Cory Nguyen, a 19-year-old college student in Portland revealed that he wanted to get his hands on the iPhone 6 Plus but the employees at the store announced that they ran out of stock while he was still in the line. So he had to settle for just 2 iPhone 6 models which he is planning to resell. “I know people,” Nguyen said. “Everyone wants an iPhone. It’s high demand. It’s extra cash. Students — trying to make a buck.”

So far all the representatives who reached Apple for any comment on this scenario didn’t get anything in return. According to analyst Carl Howe from 451 Research LLC, Apple would manage to sell 12 million to 15 million new devices this weekend. Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. analyst Toni Sacconaghi on the other hand gave his speculations in a form of a report published to investors that said that he has projected sales of 7 million to 8 million, which are less as compared to last year’s first weekend sales of 9 million units of the iPhone 5s and 5c. The reason given for this change was mostly the supply constraints and also the Chinese market which isn’t one of the first countries selling the devices.

Some people are angry and some are heartbroken to not have their phones even after long hours in the waiting line. 33 year old Benitez Burns waited in the line for 13 hours outside the Apple store only to find out that the iPhone 6 Plus had been sold out. “I just can’t leave empty-handed,” said Benitez. He was left with no other option but to get the iPhone 6 instead for testing.

The AT&T store opened its doors at 8 a.m. and 23 year old Yunfei Hua was one of just a handful of people waiting to get their hands on the iPhone 6 Plus but was only able to get disappointment after the carrier ran out of the larger iPhone 6 models within 30 minutes of opening the store.
