LG’s Watch Urbane LTE Smartwatch Supports Mobile Payments

While Apple has yet to launch its luxury smartwatch, LG announced its own luxury wearable last week, calling it the LG Urbane, which uses Google’s Android Wear OS. It turns out that LG has one more trick on its sleeve. LG has just revealed another luxury smartwatch today.

The LG Watch Urbane LTE, as it is called, is a modified version of the Urbane, with a focus on speed and other nifty capabilities such as voice over LTE (VoLTE), voice chats and NFC, which means that it can process mobile payments, although LG has yet to detail how it will work.

Unlike the Urbane, this LTE version doesn’t use Android Wear, opting instead to use a proprietary operating system from LG. There are speculations that the smartwatch is using webOS, but LG confirmed to the website The Verge that it doesn’t use webOS. It is, therefore, interesting to see what LG has in store for us at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Apart from the LTE and NFC capabilities, the Urbane LTE is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and sports a 1.3-inch P-OLED screen. It also has a 1GB RAM, a 4GB eMMC, and 700mAh of battery life – almost twice the capacity of the LG Urbane, which is music to the ears. Moreover, it’s easy to notice the trio of buttons on the side (the Urbane has only one button). LG says that the buttons are for navigational and quick settings.
