Surface Mini is referenced three times in the document.

When Microsoft unveiled the Surface Pro 3 last month, we were also expecting a smaller version of the tablet – a “Mini” similar to Apple’s iPad lineup.

Rumor has it that Microsoft pulled the plug on the Surface Mini because the tablet wasn’t significant enough. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reportedly made a last-minute decision to cancel the Surface Mini announcement because he was afraid that the tablet would flop.

In spite of the rumors, Microsoft never confirmed the existence of the device. But a recently published Surface Pro 3 User Guide might just confirm it once and for all.

Paul Thurrott of SuperSite for Windows spotted references of the Surface Mini on the user guide. Surface Mini appeared three times in the document. The first citation can be found in a section about setting up the Surface Pen.

“Before you use your Surface Pen the first time, you’ll need to install the AAAA battery. You’ll pair your new pen with Surface Mini a little later during setup,” it reads. You can check out the user guide here.

Microsoft declined to comment on the report.
