Phil Simms has a Permanent Slip of the Tongue Habit

The CBS broadcaster, Phil Simms, said that he would do his best to avoid using a word that had become stuck in his mouth, but it was no easy job at all. In fact, while he was saying that he would halt from saying it, the paradox was that he was saying it unconsciously. The word (just for your information) is Redskins.

This was the name of a football team and had always been that is up until now. You see, in this politically correct age we are living in you cannot use it without causing offence since it implies a Native Indian but in a disparaging manner referring to the color of his skin.

Simms spoke the word which should have been absent from his speech at least three times during Thursday Night Football. Simms contends that it is a hard habit to break.

He played for more than a decade and a half and during that time period the team members were his bitterest opponents. So he has reason to say it like it is.

Simms normally tried to stick to the script in the capacity of a broadcaster. He kept uttering the words Washington and sometimes said the Washington Team. But with just a few minutes left to go before wrapping things up for the day, the dreaded word got spoken from his mouth and he was in trouble again.

People have even started betting online whether Phil Simms would slip up and say the word Redskin or not. And mostly it’s a case of all bets are off since ultimately he ends up saying the word no matter how careful or scrupulous he is in the end.

It is a case of trying not to imagine a black cat in your mind. The more you work at it the more that black feline will keep appearing in the subterranean depths of the pipelines of your brain.

Obsessions are not swept away by TLC (tender loving care). Rather they require a bold approach where you confront them and say to hell with it! Then their intensity vanishes with the passage of time.
