Company looking to be tops in smartwatch industry
Jean-Claude Biver is the top executive of Tag Heuer’s watch division and during a recent interview conducted in Zurich, Switzerland, Biver stated that Tag Heuer is looking to become a household name in the smartwatch industry. Biver believes that Tag Heuer will be able to produce a smartwatch that has all of the top technologies but most important it will be a smartwatch that will be affordable for incomes of all price ranges.
According to analysts from Citigroup, Inc., they predict that by 2018 the international smartwatch industry will be one that will garner yearly sales in upwards of $10 billion. Biver says that Tag Heuer is looking to get a piece of the smartphone pie and he says that his company will focus on making smartphones fun instead of capitalizing on the communications aspect of the smartwatch. Biver added that while the Swiss watch industry is struggling due to protests in Hong Kong, Tag Heuer would bring a better smartwatch product to the market. Biver would not give any information as to what the Tag Heuer smartwatch would look like.
Biver went on to say that Tag Heuer will be releasing more information and product specifications about their smartwatch at the CES 2015. Biver says that with the introduction of new smartwatches including Tag Heuer’s offerings will be one that will spur another sales increase and volume increase over the course of 2015. Citigroup says that smartphones currently account for about $2 billion in yearly sales. Biver also said that the Tag Heuer smartwatch would be an exclusive one and that it most likely would be the only model that the watch maker would make.
