Lisa Su has been appointed as the new head of AMD and she has taken her rightful position as the CEO of the organization.
Lisa Su becomes New Head of AMD
The top brass at AMD had an announcement which it made today. Lisa Su was to be the president and CEO of the firm from now onwards. Furthermore, she is a fundamental part of the board of directors too which is another feather in her cap.
The lady has made it, lending the feminist credo a whole lot of support in the process. Su is to replace Rory Read, who will be vacating the slot. Su is 44 years old. But all this is to occur smoothly and in a plain sailing manner.
Read will slowly delegate responsibilities to Su and say goodbye to the conglomerate by the start of 2015. Until then the changeover phase will remain intact. The management and leadership role that Su would fulfill in the company was something that took place by a mutual cooperation between her and Rory.
Su had considerable experience in the semiconductor industry and that would be useful to AMD and so they hired her to lead them forward into the future.
“Leadership succession planning has been a joint effort between Rory and the board and we felt that Lisa’s expertise and proven leadership in the global semiconductor industry make this an ideal time for her to lead the company,” said Bruce Claflin, chairman of AMD‘s board of directors.
“The board looks forward to continuing to work with Lisa and the rest of the senior management team to build on the company’s momentum. I would also like to thank Rory for his many accomplishments and contributions positioning AMD for long-term success by helping to create a strong foundation and clear path to re-establish the company’s growth and profitability.”
The board of directors thanked both Lisa Su and Rory Read for the level of maturity and dignity they had both shown. Su said that she was very happy to take AMD on to even greater successes and new goals.
The marriage of high class technology and the teams of experts would surely result in a whole lot of prosperity and prestige for the organization. Computers indeed were the wave of the future, she said.
She also spoke of how she would take the base Rory had built and carry on the tradition of reaching even loftier heights. In the past three years or so, AMD has seen a lot of progress. About two years back it had amassed nearly a billion dollars in revenues.
“I am deeply honored to have this opportunity to lead AMD during this important time of transformation. Our world-class technology assets combined with the incredible talent and passion of the AMD team provide us with a unique opportunity to shape the future of computing,” Dr. Su said while commenting on her appointment.
“I look forward to expanding on the strong foundation we have built under Rory’s leadership as we develop industry-leading technologies and products for a diverse set of markets to drive sustainable and profitable growth.”
Rory Read also praised the firm and said that he felt sure that Lisa would be the right leader for AMD. She was a very competent and able person and would do the organization a lot of good.
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to lead such a talented team and proud of what we have accomplished during such an important chapter in the company’s history,” Read said.
“Together, we have established the right strategy to enable AMD to continue to grow and transform. I am confident that Lisa is the right leader to drive AMD forward.”
