Twitter to remove images of deceased upon request

In a Tuesday announcement, Twitter stated that upon request from family members, it is going to remove the pictures of the deceased but it put some conditions on this policy. This announcement has come a week after Robin Williams’ daughter said that she would quit Twitter altogether after receiving some very disturbing images of her father from online trolls. And this announcement from Twitter also comes after the social networking site tried to delete images and video depicting the death of U.S. photojournalist James Foley, who was apparently killed by the militant group Islamic State, better known as ISIS.

While talking about the update in the policies, Twitter spokesman Nu Wexler said “In order to respect the wishes of loved ones, Twitter will remove imagery of deceased individuals in certain circumstances. When reviewing such media removal requests, Twitter considers public interest factors such as the newsworthiness of the content and /4/not be able to honor every request.”

Twitter is being more rigid in the case of Foley’s slaying and CEO Dick Costolo announced early Wednesday that accounts of the users who had been posting pictures of the execution will be suspended.
